| The story behind the
Sprint - My father in law has a good
friend who owns a local bar and the friend was
dating a woman who's sister had a couple of cars
she needed to sell, due to the fact she was
getting old and didn't drive. The lady was
old and kept the cars in the garage where she had
parked them every night since she bought them
new. She was afraid to answer the door so
no one could really look at them.
They called me and asked me if I was interested.
I said sure and went there to find a nice 72
sprint and a 1975 mercury monarch 2 door.
The family knew the mustang was something of
value and feared that if the mustang sold they
would never get rid of the mercury so I bought
them both. I went to get them to take
them home. With a little pumping on the pedal,
they started and drove out. The family told
me that it needed tires and the mustang tires
weren't the best. They thought they were the
original set. Yes bias ply bald tires. It was a
scary ride home but it was only about 2
miles. The car has 62,000 miles on
it. The car has all original paint
and the interior is all original. Someone tried
to dress it up under the hood with a little black
paint. In 1972, the Sprint was available with an
"A" package or "B" package,
which was mostly a change in the wheels. The car
came with the white sidewalls and hub caps. They
are in wonderful original condition. The
pin stripe on the dog dish hub caps are excellent
and the trim rings are nice. I found
a set of the optional mustang magnum 500 wheels
with raised white letter tires, so now the car
has the A and the B package
options. The car has a 351 2v with a 3
speed on the floor. The car drives like a
dream. I got a Marti report. It is 1
of 288 built with these options. I feel
priviledged to be the keeper of this pony.
