Ben Olivas
1987 Gt

The year was 1970. I was 12 when my sister’s boyfriend pulled up in his 1969 428 SCJ Mach I, and I knew some day I’d have a Mustang. It wasn’t until the spring of 1988 when that day came. A co-worker’s son had purchased a 1987 Mustang GT and had managed to get a couple of speeding tickets the first six months that he owned the car. His dad decided the car needed to be sold, and I bought the car.

On May 3, 1999, an F4 tornado tore through my neighborhood, destroying my house and badly damaging my vehicles. The Mustang had a lot of cosmetic damage, but the frame and driveline were intact. I purchased the car from the insurance company for less than $300.

John Bagby, owner of SS Body Shop in Midwest City, agreed to help me put the Mustang back together again. A few months later the Mustang was looking good; It had new sheet metal, glass, a four-inch cowl hood, and a killer black paint job.

The original motor had well over 100,000 miles on it, so I located a fresh 351 Windsor long block. I added a set of BBK headers, Edlebrock RPM intake, cam shaft from Comp Cams, a Pro M mass air and breather, and, most recently, a Nitrous X-Press nitrous oxide system.

The interior has Auto Meter tach and gauges, a Steeda four point rollbar, and a 500 watt Alpine stereo system.

The transmission has been upgraded to a Tremmec TKO 600 5 sp, Ford Motorsport 3:55 gears fill the rear end housing. Mac upper and lower control arms help put the rubber to the ground. The wheels are ROH ZR5’s 15x8 1/2.
