Tami Benedict's 65 Mustang
I was 14 the first time I sat in a 1965 Mustang. Ever since then I had dreamed of owning my own. I found one a few years ago for $1800. I didn't have much time to look at it so just got the number. Called to make arrangements to go look. The man said come over that night, he wasn't home. Called again but no answer. I called a few more times but he wouldn't return my calls. I even told him I had the cash. Went back the next day and looked at it better. It was '66 and needed more work than I could afford at the time. I was constantly looking after this but couldn't find any that appealed to me. I was actually looking for a purple one which I knew probably didn't exist.
First part of Nov 2005 my husband starting searching the net, I had no clue until one day I walk in and here's this 1965 Red Mustang on the screen. He asked if I liked it. My reply was, "Not that color. Please don't tease me!" He said he wasn't teasing. So we searched together for a few weeks and found mine on MustangDreams.com. He wanted $8000. But had to sell it soon because winter was coming and he wanted to store it. Didn't want to wait until the end of Dec. Wanted us to wire him half the money and pick it up when we said. This negotiation went on for a few more weeks. Husband offered him more then he was asking so he said he would hold it. He loved this car but he was given a choice; his wife or the car. I would've kept the car! If she hadn't of given him that choice though I wouldn't have my dream car yet.
We left OKC Dec 24th. Arrived in Michigan Dec 27th to pick up my car. What a Christmas gift!!
1965 A Coupe, Honey Gold exterior, Ivy Gold interior (looks more like green in and out). Built in Dearborn Michigan, sold March 8, 1965 to a Dr. in Atlanta. My car came with the original book and owners card. Went thru at least 4 owners before me. Ended back up in Michigan 2002. Found it's permanent home here in OKC.
289 2bbl, 3 spd was replaced with 1969 4 spd close-ratio Toploader, was single now duel exhaust. It has been repainted but poorly. Vinyl top removed but glue still remains! Previous owner has done some minor work and I have had some done: fan blade, thermostat housing, belts, water pump and timing chain cover. More work to come.
