My desires to own a Classic Mustang came after my son’s Steve & Roger restored a 1966 Mustang Coupe. I told my son Steve that I would like to have a Classic Mustang to show and to drive and enjoy. He told me that he would try to find me one. After several months of looking and searching we could not find a reasonable priced Mustang. One day my son Steve called me and asked if I would like to go with him to appraise a one owner 1978 Mustang GHIA. I told him I would go with him. We drove to Northwest Oklahoma City and stored inside a two car garage was a Metallic Blue with Chamois colored vinyl roof. The lady that owned it was a retired nurse. She told us, that she and husband bought the car new in 1978 at a local Dealership. After her husband passed away she wanted to move to St. Louis to be close to her family and would not be able to take her car with her. After Steve appraised the vehicle the value was more than I wanted to give for the car. Several weeks passed, President Bill Henson of the Oklahoma Mustang Club contacted my son Steve about the 1978 Mustang that Steve appraised. He told Steve that the vehicle was for sale on the Internet for $2500.00 or best offer. Steve called the number and talked to a friend of the owner of the car and they wanted to sell the car as quick as possible. Steve asked me if I wanted the car and I told him yes if the car could be bought at a good price. He went and looked at the car and purchased it for me. Beings it was a little ole lady’s car it had some minor door dings and body scrapes. My son’s Roger and Steve took the car and repaired the damages and repainted the car. After several hours cleaning and shampooing the interior it looked like new again. My son Steve detailed the engine. After several hours of cleaning the car was ready to drive and enjoy.
My first car show was a Joe Cooper Ford in Yukon Oklahoma. Beings it was a popular vote show I felt that it would not do well and much to my surprise it took a second place trophy. This excited me to know that it was nice enough to win a trophy. I started to work even harder to clean and detail the car.
My second car show was Annual Oklahoma Mustang Club Stampede Mustang Car Show in Mustang Oklahoma. Being judged on MCA rules, I won a second place trophy at this show. I went home and corrected the items I was marked off for.
I decided to take the car to Tulsa Green Country Classic Mustang for another MCA car show. With help from my son Steve, we cleaned and detailed even more areas of the car, to me the car was looking better each time I showed it. After the vehicle was judged by MCA rules it scored high enough for a First Place Trophy in the class of 1974-1978 Mustang. This hooked this 74 year old lady on the Hobby of showing cars. I hope I have several years to enjoy this car and enjoy the people I meet at the car shows.
